Sandycove

______________________________________

By nightfall the sea and sky had taken a beating
The water had lost its crystal qualities, the sky was black and blue
A tidal sucking-in of light and colour drained the seashore
Exposing the rocks to wet-brown weeds and the ghost-shrimps

The wear and tear of the short day had everyone exhausted
We walked slowly along the evening shoreline
Every step one closer to the sleep of sleeps
Everything familiar turning to a colourless negative

By the time the dawn had thrown its jacket on the grass
The sea and sky had been restored like all the waking eyes
And all along the coast as far as anyone could see
The world was washed again and swish and free
